We are very proud to hang our new Green Key plaque in the entrance of Best Western The Hotel Versailles, making our commitment to the environment official. It is also a testament to the work we put into preparations over several months, our investment in equipment and the commitment of our teams. Everyone at Best Western The Hotel Versailles constantly works hard to contribute to making tourism more responsible and sustainable.

Green Key, an international environmental certification

The leading sustainability certificate for tourist accommodation and restaurants in France

The Green Key certificate was created in 1998 to demonstrate that an establishment is taking a meticulous approach to environmental responsibility. It entails meeting strict criteria set at an international level by the Foundation for Environmental Education, which is represented in France by the association Teragir. These criteria are updated every four years to take into account technological advances and environmental issues that are constantly changing.

Green Key adopts an environmental policy and takes a socially responsible approach that includes efficient waste management, water and energy use monitoring, responsible procurement and continual education of guests and staff. The certification system requires regular audits and evidence gathering to demonstrate the commitment of the establishments that have the certification.

In 2025, 2428 establishments in France have the French Green Key certification, the Clef Verte. Green Key programmes can also be found in 76 other countries across the globe.

In your room

An environmentally friendly sleep in Buc

💡LED lights on all floors. All the lighting in your room (and throughout the hotel) is fitted with LED light bulbs, which use very little electricity while still providing plenty of light.

💧To help you sing like a star in the shower, we have installed HYDRAO light-up shower heads. These smart showers show you how much water you are using in real time through different coloured lights, making saving water fun. You can choose from three types of jet – rain, massage and mist – for a customised shower experience and optimal comfort.

We have also installed aerators to reduce the amount of water used. What’s more, we have optimised the toilet flushes to reduce water use and improve performance.

🫧In order to significantly reduce the amount of rubbish generated in the bathroom, we have opted for larger sizes of complimentary products.

⚡We’re not (quite) made of money! If you forget to switch off the lights before you leave, there’s no need to fret. The light will automatically switch off a few seconds after you leave so no unnecessary energy is used.

🧽It needs to be sparkling clean! Our rooms are carefully cleaned using eco-friendly cleaning products, which are better for your health, our staff and our planet.

🛏️ Are you planning on staying for a few days? We won’t replace your bedding or towels every day, unless you ask us to.

♻️Each to their own. We provide separate rubbish and recycling bins for different types of waste to make sorting rubbish easier.

🥐Offering you high-quality food that is local and/or organic where possible is really important for us.

👉You can enjoy our home-made options that include cakes, yoghurt and scrambled eggs. They are all made with love by Ange, our chef.

🗑️To reduce the amount of waste we produce, we greatly limit the amount of individually packaged products we use. To cut down on food waste, we invite our wonderful guests to refill their plates as many times as they like once they are empty!

☕ We are able to cater for everyone, whether you eat a vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free diet. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements in advance when you make your booking.

🥕Just like at breakfast, when possible we prefer to buy local products that are responsibly produced and, above all, we prioritise fruit and vegetables that are in season. Everything is prepared on site by our expert chef Ange.

♻️We sort our kitchen waste too. All the waste generated in the kitchen is carefully sorted into the correct bins to ensure as much of it can be recycled as possible.

An educated and invested team

In addition to installing more energy efficient and sustainable facilities and fittings, Best Western The Hotel Versailles works with local partners who have social, economic and/or environmental values just like ours.

However, a hotel that takes its responsibility to the environment seriously also needs significant human investment. Here everyone has their own role, but everyone is united in their commitment to making tourism sustainable. The teams at Best Western The Hotel Versailles in Buc receive training in green habits and are constantly learning about environmental initiatives.
